Knock ’em for Six – Twitter content that will keep them coming back for more

Twitter’s beauty is also it’s challenge.

The 140 characters it holds can either amount to an engaging post that will keep your readers come back  (even better – click on the “Buy” Button on your blog) or get lost in a gushing swell of information, never to be found again.

Which one will yours be?

Here are some tips that will get your followers to Retweet, your browsers to buy and your competitors to swoon with envy.

1. Secret Sauce is in the Mix

Like any other community, Twitter has its own etiquette. A cursory browse through Twitter will show that most tweets fall into one of these categories:

Fun      Silly videos, funny stories

Inspirational     Short quotes or links to quotes, inspirational videos, stories of underdogs defeating the odds, etc

Helpful, how to stuff     Links to interesting articles, videos, manuals, ebooks etc.

RTs     Retweets of the above

Promotional     Direct salesy type of tweets – New course/ebook/ Information or physical product out. This has the letters BUY all over it.

The important thing here is to have a mix. Too much of any of the above will either turn off your audience or dilute your message.

2.  Tweet in blocks

This idea is shared from the Traffic Generation Cafe (Respect, Anna Hoffman).

“This is a great way to stand out in your followers’ time line.

Instead of tweeting once and immediately getting lost in the sea of other tweets, tweet in a group of 4 tweets.

The first 3 should be other people’s posts, quotes, etc, but the last one is always yours – leading to your blog. That way it will be on top of your tweet block and will be likely to get clicked on first.

Of course, to make your life easier, I would schedule all your blocks in advance, spaced 3-4 hours apart – you can do that with both TweetAdder and MarketMeSuite.”

Thanks Anna, you’ve changed my life in more ways than you will know !

3. Hashtags, Hashtags, Hashtags

There are so many ways to use HT effectively and this merits a separate post. Some ideas are

During events or breaking news    This will ensure that your tweet is picked up with the relevant stream.      Use this resource to find a list of hashtags which you can use for massive visibility.

In both cases you need to be sure that there is no spam involved.  An example can be seen below, where a musician is using a popular hashtag to promote his social media standing. Twitter Hashtag

Now make sure that you take action.

Please let me know your experience with generating traffic through Twitter, I would love to hear from you!
